Rajesh Khanna never showed attitude n used to conveniently mix with people of the lowest echelons of the society n whenever he was in mood his inner urge of an actor par excellence would come out.
While Kaka never mixed films with politics, never mentioning much about his hey days of superstardom there had been some ocassions when Kaka used to exhibit his dance in accurate filmy style or take hold of the musical instruments or drums of the roadside musicians and play them in the midst of the audience or guests in functions or parties.
He behaved more like a super star turned politician n MP than to prefer being called a super star or actor. He preferred being a naami giraami rajneta than an actor par excellence while in politics. But when in easy n jubilant mood attending musical evenings while he was MP he do used to enjoy them and sometimes exhibit his THUMKAAS on his own films’ song.
To substantiate this point there are two specific incidents when cheerful Kaka danced in full mood to the tune of a song of one of his superhit films Roti, “naach meri bul bul tujhe paise milega, kahan kadardaan tujhe aisa milega,” n “gore rang pe tu itna guman na kar , gora rang do din mein dhal jaayega”. Kaka was invited as chief guest in a musical function at Aiwane Ghalib Hall in Rouse Avenue, New Delhi.
The organisors of the musical evening and the musicians n singers were extremely pleased to have their one time super star in their midst n were feeling immensely blessed being Kaka’s die hard fans.
When the artists were performing on the melodious songs of “Roti” Kaka could not control his artistic urge and suddenly came on the stage to dance to the tune of the full song.
People were impressed by his enthralling dance performance despite the fact that he never rehearsed after becoming a politician.
Super duper hit Roti was produced in 80ies and Kaka was dancing after several years without any pre rehearsal. The entire audience stood up and started dancing at their seats and some coming near the stage. Everybody were surcharged – women n youths n even senio citizens.
There were cheers n clappings for over 5 minutes continuously n he received an standing ovation finally surrounding him in hundreds posing for photographs n seeking his authograph. Similarly on the occasion of the inauguration of the van of his brother like die hard fan / colleague Vipin Oberoi called “The Treat” in Chanakyapuri, behind Jesus n Mary, where good number students of Jesus Mary n the nearby people were present Kaka was given a grand musical reception by Ramesh Dutta’s Nehru Brigade volunteers. Late Ramesh Dutta, 8 times councillor from Minto Road worked tremendously hard in Kaka’s New Delhi elections first against BJP heavy weight Lal Krishna Advani and thereafter opposite Shatrughan Sinha.
While the band wallas , the brigade volunteers immaculately dressed in white Kurta Pyjamaas were playing their musical instruments on the melodious songs of Kaka’s films, Rajesh Khanna all of a sudden tagged the small drum around his neck n starting drumming it. He also danced briefly to the utter surprise of all in spotless while kurta pyjama, making everybody happy n literally making the mood of the party.
The principal of Jesus n Merry college n her husband also joined this simple function . They too were Kaka’s die hard fans n felt too grateful n obliged to Vipin to invite them in order to meet their superstar in person, whom they have never dreamt to even meet him ever.
In the meanwhile some girls in green sports attire while going for their game saw Kaka and stood their watching him curiously. Kaka noticed their interest in him and himself called them, shook hands, gave autographs n asked the photographers to click a group photograph with them.
The college girls were highly impressed, thrilled n felt extremely jubilant for meeting a one time super star of the silver screen. Kaka ‘s such modest n down to earth attitude makes him the people’s star in true sense. When I questioned the then principal of prestigious Jesus n Mary College about her thrilling experience of this meeting with Kaka she just summed up her reply in one sentence” such iconic personalities like Kaka are born only once in centuries” WOW.
However, to recollect the golden memories of the first n original super star Rajesh Khanna n feel nostalgic one can visit THE TREAT VAN with Kaka’s photographs in action including an incessant running large TV screen exhibiting Kaka’s super duper hit songs n visuals. The food n snacks, both vegetarian n non vegetarian here are quite delicious.
When alive n in Delhi Kaka used to visit here in the night to enjoy Vipin Oberoi’s generous hospitality who is the owner of tweet and even served his delicious nog veg items to Kaka at Ashirvad in Mumbai. Sounds interesting, indeed.
