Priyanka Chopra Talks About Why She Moved to Hollywood

After spending nearly 20 years in Indian cinema, actor Priyanka Chopra Jonas stated that she finally decided to move to Hollywood as the present filmmakers in Bollywood were not casting her and wanted a break from the tiring politics that exist within this industry.

On a comedy Podcast, “Armchair Expert”, with Hollywood actors Monica Padman and Dax Shepherd, Priyanka stated that she had beef with people back in Bollywood.

When asked why she decided to start her career from the beginning once more in an unknown territory, Priyanka Chopra said that she had never discussed the reasons for her move to Hollywood with the public before.

She further stated that she will now share this because her fans make her feel safe. She stated that back and Bollywood, she had reached the zone of being a “serious actor” and that she wasn’t doing any big films when she received a call from her current manager, named Anjula Acharia, while on the set of Vishal Bhardwaj’s film from 2011 “7 Khoon Maaf”.

She said that she was being put into a corner in the Bollywood industry, that the people responsible for Casting were not offering her any roles for reasons unknown, and that she had beef with people. She said that she wasn’t good at playing this kind of game and was tired of the politics involved, so she decided to take a break and started her career as a singer in Los Angeles in 2012.

She then shared that she was signed on by an American record label, Interscope Records, where the founder, Jimmy Iovine, was her talent scout. She gained popularity through music videos such as “Exotic” and “In My City”.

The whole music gig allowed her to be a part of another world and not fight over movies she didn’t want to get at all as it would require grovelling, and it didn’t seem like the thing to do by that particular point.

So once she had the opportunity at hand, she decided to go to America, where she found that her record label what’s an absolute dream to work with. She was presented with the opportunities to work with the big shots of Hollywood, such as Pitbull and Will. I.Am, Koma, And many more incredible artists.
