Sr Congress leader n secy to Congress president Sonia Gandhi’s dies of Covid 19, multiple organ failure
The Senior Congress leader, member CWC, political secretary to the Congress president Sonia Gandhi for two decades and Rajya Sabha MP cum treasurer of All India Congress committee termed as a trouble shooter of the party as well as the Gandhi family Ahmed Patel is no more. He breathed his last today at Medanta hospital after suffering from Covid 19 admitted in October n undergoing treatment leading to multi organ failure as reported by his son Faisal Patel n daughter Mumtaz Patel Siddique who had been updating the medical condition pf their father earlier through twitter as well.
Faisal tweeted : With profound grief n sorrow, I regret to announce the sad and untimely demise of my father, Me. Ahmed Patel at 25/11/2020, 3.30 AM. After testing positive for Covid 19 around a month back, his health worsened further due to multiple organ failures. May Allah grant him the Jannate firdaus Inshallah he wished. He requested his well wishers to strictly follow the Covid 19 regulations by avoiding mass gatherings and to maintain social distancing norms all the times. Ahmed Patel hadd been in Congress since 1975 when emergency was imposed having been elected from Bharuch parliamentary constituency in Gujarat in 1977 after emergency was withdrawn during the massive Janata Party wave thus gaining late prime minister Indira Gandhi’s attention and trust.
After the assasination of Indira Gandhi, when Rajiv Gandhi was sworn in as the country’s PM and the party won about 400 seat out of sympathy wave he came close to Rajiv Gandhi who made him his first parliamentary secretary and since then he served the party and Gandhi family being in close proximity winning their trust n confidence. He was offerered thepost of the union minister by the then prime minister but Ahmed Patel politely rejected the proposal and preferred to be with Sonia Gandhi as her political secretary for mote than two decades always advising them on various important political n organisational complex matters.
He had been the lok Sabha member three times n five times Rajya Sabha MP. He has despite entire BJP’s efforts with union HM Amit Shah’s personal interest to ensure his defeat jad won the RS seat hands down. Despite being always in close proximity to the Gandhi family n as the Congress chiefs politucal advisor always playing a vital role in ticket distribution and government formation at the centre and in states even finalising the prospective CMs during Rahul Gamdhi and Sonia’s era when Rahul n Priyanka were not fully active in Cingress Ahmed Patel had been the strongest pillar of unflinching loyalty to the Gandhi family during the last five decades initially picked by late prime minister Indira Gandhi. Congress president Sonia gandhi, Rahul Gandhi n Priyanka Gandhi deeply condoled the sad demise of Ahmed Patel terming him losing a most precious jewel they ever had.
