Soaring Covid 19 cases compel us to exercise maximum precautions. Soaring cases in Delhi worry one n all

An abrupt surge of more than 1500 cases of Covid 19 pandemic in a single day yesterday after four days of constant spike of more than a thousand cases in Delhi after relaxations has made the Delhites extremely worrisome and terror stricken especially those who are above 60 to 65 years of age and already suffering from other ailments viz cardiac, renal, Asthama, neurology or other critical illnesses.

Delhi being the capital city of the country housing the top political personalities at the helm of affairs including bureuacrats running the affairs of the nation, these horrific surge in the contagious Covid 19 cases has infact compelled the Delhi government, its health sector and the Delhites to give a serious rethinking towards controlling this uncontrollable upward trend with the national capital territory of Delhi becoming the third Covid 19 infected state after Maharashtra and Tamilnadu though few days ago it was on the 7th pedestral.

However, the fact remains that its not only Delhi but Maharashtra is also far ahead of Delhi with more than 70 thousand cases. If we go by the national figures of Covid 19 the tally has rapidly crossed two lakh numbers with over 9000 cases recorded in the last 24 hours. What is most surprising is the fact that in Delhi this surge in Covid 19 cases had been so expeditious or rapid that in just a fortnight the cases have been doubled from 7% in May 7-21 to 14% during May 19-June 1.

Similarly the mortality rate due to this dreaded pandemic in Delhi has reached 606 numbers till June 1st. However, certain hospitals are yet to submit their cases in this regard and the Delhi government has already send written instructions to the hospitals delaying the death numbers. The speed with which the cases of Covid infections are enhancing in Delhi for the last five days it has posed a grave challenge to the state government especially the chief minister Arvind Kejrival and health minister Satyendra Jain who had been assuring the Delhi citizens of best possible treatment and bringing the critical situation under control.

Chief minister Arvind Kejrival has asked the Delhi citizens not to panic and learnto live with the pandemic with determination and strong will. He had been claiming about the availabilty of nearly 7000 beds with more than 302 ventilators but the question arises that if the cases go on increasing at such a high pace how long will this present strength of beds suffice ?

According to the health bulletin of June 4, the number of beds earmarked for the treatment of Covid 19 patients shot up by 1655 over the last 24 hours. This is mainly due to the addition of 1500 beds at the Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital.

There are also complaints from certain private and government hospitals of Delhi regarding denial of admissions to Covid 19 patients despite the launch of Delhi government’s Corona APP .

However, latest news report suggest that the Health department is seriously taking note of this negligence to set right the situation Till date the Covid 19 cases in Delhi have crossed 24000 numbers having doubled in the last fortnight. However, this also includes the recovery cases.

Till May 30 the recovery rate was 43% out of total cases, around 8500 cases out of total 19000 cases in Delhi. In his earlier virtual conference the Delhi CM Arvind Kejrival has revealed that majority of the infected cases were of mild nature without any symptoms.

Hence are being treated at homes in Quarantine. However yesterday’s report say that about 3, 500 patients of Covid 19 are suffering from respiratory complications and uneasiness with oxygen saturation below 90% and about 25% patients of this complications need urgent hospitalisation. About 255 patients are admitted in the ICU of various Delhi hospitals. The government has also issued letters to private hospitals constructed on land allotted by government at cheaper prices to reserve 10% beds for poor patients of Covid 19 for free treatment.

There are alleged complaints of private hospitals charging exorbitantly in the treatment of coronavirus patients. In view of the soaring cases it’s the primary responsibility of Delhites to restrict their movements, unless it’s utmostly essential, strictly maintain social distancing, repeatedly wash hands with soap or sanitizer in offices or at homes, avoid touching things and above all drink hot water at least thrice a day etc.

Precautions n distance with regular wearing of mask is the only and basic norm to be adhered too as the entry points of this deadly virus are eyes n mouth and to some extent, eyes too.

However it’s satisfying to note that the Delhi government has geared itself tremendously in view of the souring Corona virus cases by enhancing the extended Covid 19 hospital facilities.

According to news reports it has till now identified Srifort Sports Complex, Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium, Sports Complex n three private hotels including Banquet halls etc in South Delhi n New Delhi areas including at Chattarpur etc to render quarantine services and adequate treatment to the Corona Virus patients. The government is trying its best to cope with the prevailing critical situation but the way cases are shooting up is definitely a matter of immense worry.
