After a woman, one more brutally killed by man-eater in Kirti Nagar, Devprayag region

Pauri Garhwal n Chamoli seem to have become the worst affected districts in terms of maneater attacks claiming several human lives during the last few months with the wild life n forest department of Uttarakhand proving to be completely ineffective to get rid of these predators further posing immense threat to the human lives. In Garhwal and Kumaon divisions of Uttarakhand, incidents of man-eater attacks n subsequent human killings have become a permanent feature with human lives at stake especially the women n children who’ve become immensely vulnerable preys.

MEANWHILE, Devprayag area of Pauri Garhwal district these days is the worst affected with Kirti Nagar, Maletha as the epic centre of maneater attacks where a young woman was brutally killed by a man-eater whose dead highly mutilated body was found in the nearby jungles followed by dangerous attacks on a forest guard, n three other including a village head who were pounced upon by the carnivorous leopard literally injuring them who were admitted to Srinagar government hospital. Just a day before on Saturday evening a person was brutally killed by a man-eater at Kirti Nagar with his dead body found in a mutilated condition in the nearby area.

There is immense panic in the entire Kirti Nagar, Devprayag area with the villagers of Maletha, Kirti Nagar n Devprayag tremendously panic stricken going indoors in the evenings. This is the second brutal maneater killing within few days of a young woman n a man with their highly decomposed bodies found in the nearby jungles including a man-eater attack injuring four persons near Maletha village of Pauri Garhwal.

Few months ago two adolescent girls were brutally killed in Chamoli district n subsequently the maneater killed by government appointed shooters viz Joy Hukeel n Lakhpat Singh who had so far killed several man-eaters in Uttarakhand.

Keeping view the panic of maneater killings in the Kirti Nagar, Maletha and Devprayag areas of Pauri Garhwal the wild life department has deputed its guards to keep an eye on the movement of these man-eaters n may be they’ll hire the government appointed shooters to trap them in the cages after tranquilizing or if need be kill them. However for now the forest guards have already fixed cages at certain locations to trap the maneater reveal sources.


There is speculation that not one but four man-eaters are active in the area who are on prowl for human flesh. The situation is really worrisome n people in Kirti Nagar, Maletha n Devprayag including in the surrounding villages are extremely panic stricken.

It may be recalled that about 65 man-eaters have been killed since the last 20 years.

According to senior journalist in NDTV in his latest report Hridyesh Joshi, more than three hundred humans have fallen prey to the man-eaters being brutally killed with around two thousand injured many of them grievously in maneater human beings’ interactions.
