SC, 3 judge bench imposes fine of Rupee 1 on advocate Prashant Bhushan lest to face 3 months imprisonment

The supreme court of India has today in its final verdict punished the senior supreme advocate n activist Prashant Bhushan taking an extremely lenient view with a fine of Rupee one to be paid by September 15, n in case he refuses to do so defying their order, then, will be imprisoned for three months including stoppage of his practice for three years.

This is probably the first judgement taking such a lenient view towards a senior advocate of Supreme Court in court’s history when there had been so much of arguments in the controversial matter with the advocate in question having refused to tender apology to the honourable supreme court, chief justice n the apex court despite giving senior advocate Prashant Bhushan an opportunity by the judges of the apex court to seek apology.

It may be recalled that the senior advocate Prashant Bhushan had allegedly issued two tweets amounting to casting severe aspersions against some judges n raising objections against the honourable chief justice of India Mr. Bodbe for driving a highly expensive motor cycle without wearing a mask etc in Nagpur allegedly belonging to a political leader. Bhushan has also posted the picture of Mr. Bodbe on the expensive bike wearing goggles in his Twitter handle creating widespread controversy.

He was held guilty by the supreme court in 14 th August for these derogatory tweets.

Prashant Bhushan’s advocate senior advocate in supreme court Rajeev Dhawan had on 25 th August urged the apex court to kindly exhibit judicial statesmanship by not making Bhushan a martyr for his tweets on contempt charges including request from 104 lawyers n several other intellectuals of the country.

Meanwhile as per the latest news, adamant advocate Bhushan, not prepared to seek apology till the issuance of the verdict by three judge bench SC on his derogatory remarks against the CJ n other judges n SC saying that it would amount to killing his inner conscience as he fully regarded the honourable supreme court but has constitutional rights of freedom of speech n expression, would be addressing a press conference at 4 PM today to give his view point whether he would abide by the three judge bench supreme Court verdict by paying the fine of Rupee one or go for imprisonment of three months n stoppage of his practice in SC for three years defying the verdict.

The supreme court has initiated suo moto contempt action against the civil rights advocate Prashant Bhushan for casting aspersions against the CJI Bodbe n supreme court on its role during the last six years and posting the picture of CJI on a motorbike without mask thus undermining the dignity and office of the CJI through his two tweets.

Senior supreme court advocate Prashant Bhushan is a civil right activist who is quite popular in the country having played a vital role in crusader against corruption Anna Hazaare’s national movement and later on contributing tremendously in the victory of AAM AADMI PARTY as Arvind Kejrival ‘s associate during his thick n thin but was later ousted from AAP after he developed serious differences with Kejrival.

Prashant Bhushan usually remains in news for his fight against corruption n is considered to be a fearless fighter n outspoken civil right lawyer.

He was attacked in his chamber last year by right wing activists for his controversial remark on Jammu n Kashmir favouring plebiscite etc.

Son of the former union law minister Bharat Bhushan during the Janata Party rule at the centre, both the father son duo had, apart from being greatly instrumental in the formation of AAP, also contributed Rs one crore during its formation days.

He has always been in the forefront to raise his voice fearlessly on issues like Rafale n freedom of speech n expression n against corruption etc at the pan India level.
