The Bollywood movie titled : Gunjan Saxena, The Kargil girl , a biopic on a daring IAF woman pilot namely Gunjan Saxena, produced by prominent producer Karan Johar has come into controversy as the president of National Commission for Women Rekha Sharma has demanded it’s screening to be banned with immediate effect after the Indian Airforce has, in writing send a complaint to Netflix, IFCI and the producer, director of the biopic strongly protesting n objecting to the absolutely wrong portrayal of the facts and damaging the image of Indian Air Force by wrongly portraying the gender discrimination of an IAF officer n women pilot by IAF n harrassing her, who courageously exhibited outstanding n exemplary feats during the Kargil war of 1999 by piloting the Air Force Helicopters in the war zone and doing good number of sorties and saving several lives by lifting the injured soldiers to hospitals and also tracing the clandestine enemy positions on high mountainous ranges n valleys and subsequently acquainting the Indian Army who thereafter attacked n killed several Pak troopers n re captured Indian territories.

The biopic was released on 12 th August on Netflix enticing excellent viewership with Boney Kapoor n Sridevi’s daughter Janvi Kapoor playing the role of a brave n brilliant IAF officer n helicopter pilot, this being her debut film. According to the latest reports the Indian Air Force has raised serious objections for the wrong n inappropriate portrayal of IAF’s work culture and harrasing the woman officer n pilot leading to alleged gender discrimination and has shot complaint to Netflix, Dharma production and the Film Censor Board.

They have written that certain scenes and dialogues in the movie and it’s trailer in the promo sent to it for viewing have shown IAF in a negative light etc. In the movie there are several scenes in which the woman pilot Janvi Kapoor playing the role of Gunjan Saxena have been shown by some senior men officers deliberately under valuing her competence n demoralising despite her being quite outstanding n laborious and missing her number of sorties, finally compelled by her to come back home abruptly feeling completely heart broken and disillusioned allegedly amounting to gender bias till she finally proves her mettle by saving the life of the same officer from the war zone while grievously injured, winning accolades from those IAF colleagues n officers who earlier used to create obstacles on her way, just because she was a woman.

While the IAF’s complaint was sent to Netflix, Dharma production n the Censor Board led by Prasoon Joshi for showing the IAF in bad n negative light wrongly, the real Gunjan Saxena too objected to the portrayal of IAF in a negative light issuing a statement as per News 18, saying that when ever you are in any kind of environment, there are different kind of individuals that make up that environment, so when there is a major change happening, some of these individuals are ready to accept this change more readily than the others n some take more time to adjust to this change.

She added: What is really of importance here is – even though it took time for some individuals to change, those individuals did change, it did happen and in a very positive and right direction, she said in a statement according to News 18.

It was after the IAF’s complaint and the statement of the former IAF officer n Helicopter Pilot Gunjan Saxena who made about forty sorties during the 1999 Kargil war n saved several lives including finding Pak Army’s captured Indian territory locations risking her life in the mid of the hectic war with missiles being fired on their chopper etc the chair person of National Commission of Women first tweeted : The real# Gunjan Saxena must come out n clarify whether the gender discrimination shown in the movie is for real? Being from the Army background I can never imagine defence officers behaving like goons. Officers or not Women’s alway get their due in the forces.
