Maneater killings go unabated in Uttarakhand with a 15 yr old killed today in Pauri Garhwal

The terror of maneater leopards, (Guldaars as they are pronounced) in Uttarakhand have literally made the lives of the inhabitants difficult especially those living near jungles, on roadsides n working in agricultural fields.

Not only this but there have been umpteen instances of the maneaters entering village houses, even in townships n agricultural fields desperately n clandestinely pouncing upon the women, school going children and even lifting children from their houses dragging them to the nearby jungles and thereafter eating them brutally, leaving behind the mutilated bodies with the forest and wild life department of Uttarakhand proving to be mere spectators.

In just past few weeks there had been several maneater deaths in Pauri n Chamoli Garhwal and Almora, Pithoragarh districts n in Manila as well, where several children, men, women n even animals have fallen prey to these freely roaming maneaters with the highly mutilated human bodies found in the nearby jungles.

As if this was not enough on October 1st, Thursday an adolescent boy has been the victim of a maneater in Okhliyu village of Khirsu block in Pauri Garhwal district who was killed by a maneater in broad daylight sending shock waves in the entire district with local populace extremely terrified n frightened compelled to go indoors.

The 15 year old boy Pankaj Rawat son of Jagmohan Singh Rawat had gone to the nearby jungle with the domestic animals to feed them fodder as usual alongwith his three friends.

While the domestic pets were busy grazing, Pankaj and his friends were playing in the nearby area. In the meanwhile a maneater being in prowl for human flesh hiding cladestinely, behind the bushes n grown up wild grass pounced upon him with his friends running in desperation n terrible fear to their houses.

After informing their parents n villagers all of them came running to the spot but by that time the Maneater had badly injured the child leaving unconscious n grievously injured Pankaj behind.

He was immediately ferried to the Pauri hospital where he was declared brought dead. Pankaj Rawat was the only son of his anguished parents. There is tremendous anger n disenchantment in the Khirsu block with people demanding elimination of the maneater and fixing of iron cages by the forest department to catch the maneater n if need be, get rid of him.

Meanwhile the forest department has recently taken a decision to fix radio collar transmitters on atleast 15 leopards n tigers to start with to trace n monitor their movements.

Just two weeks ago decomposed body killed probably by a maneater of a temple priest was found in Manyarsiun Patti with attack on a man in Kanskhet by a maneater.
Earlier to that a woman was killed in Maletha village with attack by maneaters in Baadyun village n nearby villages injuring four persons including a forester. In Devprayag, Pauri Garhwal too a half eaten dead body of a labourer was located killed by a maneater.
