Imran Khan Supporters Resist Police’s Attempt to Arrest Him

Supporters of Ex-Prime Minister Imran Khan continue to clash against the police as the man remained hidden at his Lahore residence before his possible arrest.

In October last year, Imran Khan was found guilty by the election commission of Pakistan of unlawfully selling gifts to foreign dignitaries. Due to the debacle that was caused, charges were filed against the politician within an anti-corruption court last week. When Mr Khan did not respond to the summons, a warrant was issued under for Imran Khan arrest. Under the Pakistani law that governs Islamabad, “Toshakhana,” which translates to “Treasure house” in the Persian dialect, politicians have the right to retain official state gifts presented to them by paying a certain percentage their value to the government.

Imran Khan’s political party Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), stated that the residence of the former prime minister was under extreme attack and proceeded to call for support. They wrote a tweet that Rangers and the Police had opened fire upon his residence and that Zaman Park was under extreme attack.

Due to this, multiple supporters of Imran Khan rallied at his Residence in Lahore, and the Pakistan police were forced to use water cannons and tear gas to push back a crowd of hundreds of people. Due to the ensuing kerfuffle, one of the activists from Mr Khan’s party was killed during this clash against the police.

After this, Mr Khan accused the Government of Pakistan of plotting his arrest as part of a “London Plan” to close all the cases against another Ex-Prime Minister, Nawaz Sharif. In a video message, he stated that whatever was happening was part of the London plan, and an agreement had been signed for Imran Khan arrest, causing his party’s downfall and closing all the cases against Nawaz Sharif.
