Harish Rawat’s “Chai par Chaupal” diplomacy at Champawat

The former chief minister of Uttarakhand n national general secretary AICC Harish Rawat is leaving no stone unturned to make his presence felt in in Uttarakhand politics especially in Congress despite his being allegedly sidelined by the present state president Pritam Singh’s camp and by his other betenoire senior leader n Congress leader in Uttarakhand Assembly Indira Hridayesh.

Both these leaders had in the recent past crushed Harish Rawat’s wishes n demand, publicly that the party high command declare its prospective chief ministerial candidate urgently inorder to fight the assembly elections of 2022 with a chief ministerial face thus giving up alleged factionalism in the party that has raised its head high hurting its prospects which has cent percent chances of coming to power.

Both the Congress leaders of Uttarakhand has turned down Rawat’s demand saying that the party should instead fight the 2022 elections cumulatively, strongly n fiercely rather than declaring the Congress CM face as desired by him ( Harish Rawat). In nutshell they have turned down his proposal, jointly.

This anti Rawat posture of Rawat’s juniors who had worked under him as cabinet ministers during his tenure as CM in 2017 has infact demoralised him to a great extent, but his political morale is still high and is losing no chance to keep his popular image as a leader of masses intact by his everlasting diplomacy and novel feats like organising jaggery tea parties and parties of Uttarakhand’s traditional delicious food items from time to time including lemon tea parties n competition of “LlMBA” Chuso parties (Red Orange competition etc ) enticing hundreds of his protagonists, supporters and party workers including Congress lawmakers, in addition to his usual symbolic “Maun Vrats” and participating in various protest demonstrations on vital issue of peoples’ concern.

Not a day is missed when seventy year old Harish Rawat, full of energy and physical fitness is seen on Twitter and Facebook with political comments attacking the saffron party, and lauding his leader Rahul and Sonia Gandhi, including highlighting his every activity in Uttarakhand and Punjab etc from where he is the party in-charge.

He has proved to be a successful twittereti as well, with his daily political updates on the latest developments in Uttarakhand and the national political scenerio.

On Wednesday, former UK CM Harish Rawat surprised one and all by organising a Choupal programme ” Chai Par Chaupal” and cooking tea himself at a tea stall in Champawat Railway station and distributing it to local people, party workers and local leaders surprising and impressing one and all, yet an another truck to impress people.

When he was the chief minister and during election too he was usually seen on newspaper front pages cooking and serving Jalebies to people at Haridwar and interior markets of Uttarakhand during election campaigning etc. Including holding tea utensil n posing for photographs.

These days Harish Rawat is on a personal socio political tour of Kumaon divisions of Uttarakhand. Today he was in Champavat. He had also been to a house of a senior Congress leader and former district president posting a brief vedio consuming tea with jaggery and appreciating it. He also visited a Goljyu Diety temple and offered Puja posting another vedio and thereafter addressed party workers in a Nagarpalika hall.

He also interacted with locals and party workers at Champawat and exhorted them to work unitedly to ensure BJP’s defeat and Congress’s victory as the latter is definitely coming to power in Uttarakhand in 2022 assembly election.

He visited to a house of a martyred soldier Rahul Rainswal to pay his heartfelt richest tributes and honoured his brave mother with a Shawl at Kanalgaon.

He also extended his tributes to late freedom fighter and former member of parliament Tripen Singh Negi on his twenty fifth death anniversary.

Harish Rawat is indeed a hard nut to be cracked who despite losing back to back two elections in Uttarakhand at the hands of BJP in 2017 Assembly elections and third election from Nainital in 2019 against Mr. Bhatt of BJP, Rawat is today still active and enthusiastically mobile in Uttarakhand as well as in national politics being party’s national general secretary and member CWC with in-charge of Punjab Congress affairs confronting opposition within his own party in his home state where he resurrected Congress to the fullest after achieving separate statehood on 9th November, 2000 and compromising his chief ministership to Narayan Dutt Tiwari, but maintaining decorum being in Congress party as the dedicated n loyal soldier of Gandhi family, finally being awarded the post of state n cabinet minister at the centre and later on as Uttarakhand’s chief ministership in 2017.

He was the same Uttarakhand CM who allegedly compelled eleven lawmakers of Congress turning rebels against the Party led by Vijay Bahuguna join the saffron BJP thus establishing his monopoly in Uttarakhand Congress in 2017 / 18, including the then heavy weight Satpal Maharaj, who is today cabinet minister in Uttarakhand govt alongwith several other defectors like Subodh Uniyal, Mr. Arya n others.
