Former governor of Manipur n Nagaland n CBI chief Ashwani Kumar commits suicide

The former Governor of Nagaland and Manipur, DG Police Himachal Pradesh and former CBI chief Ashwani Kumar is no more who breathed his last in Simla on Wednesday after he committed suicide by hanging in the attic of his house where he was leading a retired life, staying with his wife, son n daughter in law.

As per the latest news pouring in Ashwani Kumar left a suicide note behind mentioning that he is leaving for his eternal home, going on a new journey.

It is believed that he was not keeping good health n perhaps was fed up with his ailing old age. However, he had a walk before committing suicide as usual.

Former CBI director Ashwani Kumar was a thorough gentleman and a 1983 batch IPS officer having taking the reigns of the CBI as its director in the year 2008 succeeding Vijay Shanker while the investigation were going on in the most controversial Arushi murder case.

The suicidal n untimely death of a retired officer with his outstanding service record as an efficient DG P Himachal Pradesh n CBI director who was also the governor of Manipur n Nagaland, the insurgency prone states, has shocked one n all in Himachal Pradesh.

A sober, thorough gentlemen n a bright officer with integrity and blotless service record of thirty seven protracted years first as DGP, Himachal Pradesh and then as the CBI director on challenging assignments , Kumar took the reigns of DGP HP in the year 2006 n later on as CBI director in 2008.

After retirement he also served as the VC of a private university in Himachal Pradesh prior to serving as the governor of Nagaland on from March 2013 and thereafter as Manipur governor from July 2013 onwards.

He is survived by his wife, son and daughter in law.
