Former deputy CM, sidelined earlier by appointing two new deputy CMs, Sushil Modi named as RS MP nominee from Bihar after Paswan’s demise

The former deputy chief minister of Bihar during the previous tenure of the fourth time CM Nitish Kumar, since the year 2005, Sushil Modi, who had not been reappointed as the deputy CM by the BJP high command, this time, despite the saffron party performing exceedingly well gaining 74 seats, has been named as the Rajya Sabha member of parliament in place of the former RS, MP from Bihar n former union minister Ram Vilas Paswan after his sad demise leaving the seat vacant, the election which is to take place on December 14th next month.

Senior BJP leader Sushil Modi a committed RSS hardcore activist who’d joined active politics in 1980 had been the deputy chief minister of Bihar since 2005 under Nitish Kumar’s chief ministership, but was not included this time in the council of ministers as deputy CM surprising one and all especially when this time the saffron party has won on 74 seats, with the chief minister’s party JD(U) in minority with mere 43 MLAs. However, finally he was obliged by finalising his name for the lone Rajya Sabha seat from Bihar that fell vacant after the Dalit leader n LJP stalwart Ram Vilas Paswan’s death who was the ally of BJP. The Rajya Sabha seat of late Paswan’s term is till 2024.

It is believed that may be after Sushil Modi’s election to the Rajya Sabha he may be included in union cabinet in the next expansion as a reward for his dedicated hard work leading the saffron party to victory with 74 seats as the second single largest party of the state after RJD. According to BJP JDU alliance majority of 125 seats in Bihar Assembly, the victory of Sushil Modi for the lone Rajya Sabha seat is hundred percent sure as maximum 122 MLA strength is required for Sushil Modi’s triumph where as the JDU BJP has three more lawmakers than the required strength of 122 lawmakers in the house of 243 MLAs. Sources reveal that earlier the names of BJP’s chief spokesperson Shahnawaz Khan n the wife of Ram Vilas Paswan were also doing rounds but the High Command had no choice but to oblige n reward Sushil Modi, former deputy CM who had been immensely instrumental in the handsome victory of the party in Bihar.

Had Paswan’s son n LJP chief Chirag Paswan been with the BJP as it’s ally as his father was earlier and formed an alliance with the saffron party in the Bihar elections instead of contesting on his own, he would have been in a significant position in Bihar as well as at the centre, probably replacing his father as a union state minister or as deputy CM of Bihar, but his over confidence and animosity with Nitish Kumar cost him tremendously leading to a mere single MLA victory out of 143 LJP contestants in Bihar. According to the latest news the LJP has tried it’s best to approach the JD U to seek its support but the annoyed Nitish n his party has refused to help it making unambiguously sure that the BJP will win this line LJP seat.

It may be recalled that during the 2019 general election the JDU, BJP and LJP had an alliance in Bihar in which while the JDU BJP had contested on 17 seats the LJP got 6 seats to context, winning all the six. During this adjustment Ram Vilas was also given a Rajya Sabha seat whose term was up to expire in 2024.
