Eminent environmentalist Sunder Lal Bahuguna delivered President’s message by SDM Tehri Garhwal

Ninety three years old world famed eminent environmentalist n freedom fighter Padma Vibhushan Sundar Lal Bahuguna was today delivered the important message, an Angavastrum and a trophy as a mark of reverence from the president of India Dr. Ramnath Kovind on the occassion of independence day slated for 15th August.

Eminent environmentalist and writer of several books on environment protection Sarvodaya leader Sundar Lal Bahuguna had been felicitated with several coveted awards by president of India n international recognitions as well apart from Padma Shri n Padmavibhushan viz Megsaysay Award, prestigious Jamna Lal Bajaj Award etc. Sunder Lal Bahuguna also participated actively against the Tehri Rajshahi n the British rule during pre independent days

The founder of Chipko movement along with Gaurav Devi n Chandi Prasad Bhatt, Bahuguna’s entire life has been dedicated to environmental protection in Uttarakhand, country n worldwide who almost visited every country of the globe creating awareness on the subject. He had written extensively on environment, Himalayas and ecology in the leading papers of the country.

The Sub divisional magistrate of Narendra Nagar on the directives of district magistrate of Tehri Garhwal personally visited the residence of Sunderland Bahuguna in Dehradun and presented the Angavastrum, trophy n message on behalf of president of India Ram Nath Kovind.

It may be recalled that it’s a customary that every year the president invites the coveted Padma award recipients to Rashtrapati Bhawan for dinner on the occasion of independence day on 15 th of August. This year the programme has been postponed due to the ongoing pandemic Covid 19. Hence this felicitation.

In addition to Sunderland Bahuguna, 93 year old Freedom fighter living in Dehradun namely Om Kumari, 102 year old Freedom fighter Bakhtawar Singh of Karnaprayag, 100 years old Freedom fighter Murli Singh Rawat from Kotdwar, Pauri Garhwal and 98 years old Bageshwar, Garud’s Ram Singh Chauhan were also delivered the Angavastrum, trophy n message on behalf of the president Ram Nath Kovind for their outstanding contribution in the freedom struggle of India from the neo colonialist British rule.
