The former chief minister of Uttarakhand, fmr union minister during Narsimha Rao and Dr. Manmohan Singh’s prime ministerial tenures and the current general secretary of Congress including the member of CWC, the highest decision making body, Harish Rawat has demanded Bharat Ratna, the highest civilian award for Congress president Sonia Gandhi and BSP Supremo Mayavati terming them as champions of women and intensive political icons of the country enhancing the dignity of the women community, the parameters of social service to the highest levels. In a tweet issued today Congress leader Harish Rawat wrote : Reverential Sonia Gandhi Ji and honourable sister Mayawatiji, both are broad based political personalities. You can be agreeable or not of their politics but you can’t ignore the fact that Soniaji has taken the parameters of women dignity, their social contributions to the new heights. Today she is considered as the symbol of dignified n proud India women. Smt. Mayavati has generated a remarkable confidence among the people of Dalit and backward communities of the country. The government of India should honour both of them with the nation’s highest civilian award Bharat Ratna, this year tweeted Harish Rawat.
It may be recalled that in the month of August last year the president Ram Nath Kovind had posthumously awarded India’s highest civilian award, Bharat Ratnaz to Nanaji Deshmukh ,and eminent singer of national repute hailing from Assam Bhupen Hazarika. The former president Pranab Mukherjee was also awarded Bharat Ratna on this occasion.
However, the statement favouring BSP leader Mayawati for the highest civilian award Bharat Ratna by veteran Congress leader Harish Rawst sounds ” AJIBOGARIB’ UNUSUAL as the BSP supremo has always tried to politically betray Congress, even going to the extent of criticizing the party leadership very often and ditching it.
During the Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections, the general election of 2019, in Madhya Pradesh during the state elections and during the Rajasthan crisis when Ashok Gehlot’s government was in crisis, Mayavati had expressed her public displeasure accusing Congress of manipulating the two BSP MLAs and getting them defected into Congress party’s fold, thus helping the BJP indirectly, which was allegedly trying to dislodge the Congress government.
The Bharat Ratna, has been commenced in 1954 and can be awarded to three persons of outstanding achievements in a year with C Rajgopalachari, last Governor general of India n, Sarvapalli Radhakrishnan, second president and first vice president of India and C. V. Raman Sir, physicist were bestowed with this highest civilian award of the land in 1954. Since then 48 persons of high eminence in various fields n few international dignitaries like mother Teresa and Nelson Mandela have been honoured with Bharat Ratna.
