Uttarayini celebrated with gaiety and fervour by Parvatiya Kala Sanskritik Manch in Delhi

In national capital there are more than 30 lakh inhabitants of Uttarakhand from Kumaon, Garhwal and Jaunsar having quite a significant say in deciding the political fate of parties viz Congress, BJP and AAP. The Uttarakhandies in Delhi had been earlier voting for the Congress party with Kulamand Bhartiya of Congress being the education minister of Delhi for a decade or so.

But gradually the Bhartiya Janata Party succeeded in capturing the large chunk of Uttarakhand’s vote in Delhi especially after demolition of Babri Masjid and it’s vow to build Ram Temple in Ayodhya. After coming to power in Delhi in 2013 the AAM Admi Party tried to invade into the Uttarakhandi vote bank and it took the first ever initiative of forming the Garhwali, Kumaoni and Jaunsari Academy in the national capital including financing various socio political organisations of Uttarakhand in Delhi to organise the Uttarakhand’s popular Uttarayini festival in all the seventy constituencies of Delhi.

Since then the competition between BJP and AAP started ferociously to allegedly finance and organise Uttarayini functions in Delhi in order to appease the people of Uttarakhand. In view of the ongoing regulations and restrictions however this year there have been limited programmes of Uttarayini in Delhi with AAP’s Garhwali and Kumaoni academy organising it in Sanskrit Academy few days ago inaugurated by the deputy CM Delhi Manish Sisodia. On Sunday at Baljeet Nagar the Bhartiya Janata Party’s Uttarakhand cell led by Arjun Singh Rana Rana organised the Uttarayini function with full vigour and vitality being its chief guest as well. Several enthralling melodious songs, folk group dances were performed in mesmerising colourful attires.

The programme was held under the auspices of Parvatiya Kala evom Sanskritik Manch, Baljit Nagar.

It is believed that a major chunk of Uttarakhandi votes in Delhi are still with BJP traditionally, having tilted in favour of saffron party being polarised on.majoritarianism on issues like Ram Mandir and also influenced by the charisma of prime minister Narendra Modi who’d visited it’s historical shrines Kedarnath n Badrinath good number of times having also carried out the reconstruction and repair works providing modernised arrangements of stay etc at the historic shrines etc.

In Uttarakhand as well the saffron party had in 2017 secured an absolute majority winning 57 seats in the 70 member assembly with Congress getting merely 11 seats n its then CM Harish Rawat losing from two assembly seats, a record in itself for any Uttarakhand CM losing from both constituencies. The BJP has also sweeped Uttarakhand in the 2019 parliament elections winning on all the five MP seats in which too Harish Rawat had lost from Nainital.
