Governor grants her assent to Gairsain declared as the summer capital of Uttarakhand

The Uttarakhand governor Baby Rani Maurya has today given her assent to the declaration of Bhararisain, ( Gairsain) as the summer capital of Uttarakhand which came into existence on 9th November 2000 pleasing one and all, in the himalayan state, especially the separate state movement activists who’d been relentlessly struggling for declaring Gairsain as the permanent capital during the rule of Congress as well as the BJP .

The Uttarakhand chief minister Trivendra Singh Rawat has expressed his happiness over this formal decision of declaring Bhararisain( Gaisain) as the summer capital of Uttarakhand and said that everyone in the state is jubilant even the journalists and people of all the sections of the society. He added that the March 4 verbal assurance in this context has been formally fulfilled afterthe governor gave her official assent to this decision. The former chief minister Harish Rawat thanked the present CM Trivendra Rawat for issuing the notification in this regard and tweeted that while Gairsain is the summer capital of Uttarakhand then Dehradun is the temperory capital.

The former Uttarakhand Congress chief Kishore Upadhyay also expressed his delight over the issuence of the notification in this regard. It may be recalled that there had been ample demonstrations, arrests and sit ins in various parts of Uttarakhand during the last twenty years by Uttarakhand activists and the UKD, a regional Uttarakhand party immensely instrumental in organising the separate Uttarakhand movement.

The Congress n BJP which were not ready to acede this demand finally submitted to peoples’ pressure in granting assent to Bhararisain as the summer capital of Uttarakhand though they arestill for declaring it as the permanent capital. Affter incessant protests the then chief minister Vijay Bahuguna of Congress gave his assent for construction of Assembly building worth Rs 500 crores in Gairsain followed by several summer sessions by Harish Rawat and Trivendra Singh Rawat to pacify the protestors demanding full fledged capital declaration of Gairsain. Finally it came through, though merely as a summer capital.
