Congress, Kisan leaders welcome SC’s decision but doubt the credibility of committee members to resolve ongoing farmers’ crisis

The three judge bench of supreme Court headed by the chief justice SA Bodbe today stayed the three agricultural laws, till further hearing and formed a committee comprising of Bhupinder Singh Mann, Pramod Kumar Joshi, Ashok Gulati and Anil Dhanwant. This committee of four members will hear the grievances and complaints of the farmers with regard to their objections to these three agricultural laws including the perception of the government and would thereafter recommended them to the Supreme Court. The time limit fixed by the apex court to submit it recommendations is two months.

The representatives of Kisan Sangharsh coordination committee comprising of about forty farmers’ organisations and the Congress party have opposed the formation of the Supreme court committee saying that the three members are outrightly against the ongoing farmers agitation supporting the three agricultural laws of the union government.

Even the Congress leader and former president Rahul Gandhi has while doubting the credibility of the members of the committee, through a tweet questioned : Can we expect justice from those who had in writing extended their outright support to the agricultural laws ? Rahul Gandhi further added that this relentless struggle would continue till the repeal of these anti farmers and working class laws. The farmers should not be misguided, their one and only demand is : Repeal of three agricultural laws, that’s it. Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan.

The Farmers leader and president of Bhartiya Kisan Union has openly opposed the newly constituted committee by the apex court saying that all the members of the committee have been the supporters of the liberalised market economy and the three farm bills and therefore justice for the farmers can’t be expected from them.

The chief spokesman of Congress Randeep Singh Surjewala while welcoming the Supreme Court judge of staying the three agricultural laws has expressed his surprise and shock over the inclusion of four members of the committee accusing them of favouring the three farm laws who had already given their written consent in this regard.

Surjewala questioned their credibility and doubted whether they will duly accord justice to the farmers of the country ?

Randeep Singh Surjewala has in his series of tweets posting the pictures of all the committee members while questioning their credibility to accord justice to the agitating farmers said : For any committee to be independent, its credibility must be beyond any doubt. How can anyone trust a ” committee” whose members have already spoken so loudly in favour of Modi government’s draconian farm laws.

Tweeting about the three members of the committee affixing their pics, Randeep Singh Surjewala in his first tweet about Bhupinder Mann wrote : Bhupinder Mann Ji, of All India Kisan coordination Committee have submitted the memorandum on December 14 to union Agriculture minister demanding implementation of three farm laws. He is now in the committee to discuss three black laws. Any hope of fairness or just conduct from him.

About another member Ashok Gulati, Surjewala tweeted : Ashok Gulatiji has already termed any opposition to these three farm bills as misguided and supported the black laws. Therefore his verdict is already known. What justice would a person, with premeditated ideas, do to the cause of farmers tweeted Surjewala.

About the doubtful integrity of the third member he tweeted : 3rd member of the committee Sh Anil Dhanwant organised a demonstration in favour of anti farmer laws on 2nd October, last year on behalf of the Shetkari Sangathan.

Another Congress leader and former MP Harikesh Bahadur while welcoming the apex court’s decision but doubting its relevance on forming the committee tweeted : We welcome the SC order staying farm Laws. Court has shown compassion and sensitivity to farmers. This is the victory of United movement of people against arbitrary decision of the govt. The farmers should participate in the negotiations notwithstanding it’s fate. But Harikesh Bahadur further tweeted putting the pics of all the four committee members, writing : If credibility of the movers of the committee formed by SC is doubtful in the eyes of the farmers , the committee loses its relevance tweeted Congress leader Bahadur.
