Army Helicopter Crashed in Arunachal Mid-Operation

A Cheetah class helicopter belonging to the Indian Army was flying during an operation with two pilots aboard near the Bomdila district of Arunachal Pradesh. A defence spokesperson notified the media and authorities that, unfortunately, the helicopter was found crashed near the Mandala Hills region of the state on Thursday. The helicopter, which was flying during an operation near Bomdila, lost contact with the Air Traffic Control (ATC) at somewhere around 9:15 a.m., according to Lieutenant Colonel Mahendra Rawat.

The Chopper in question was carrying a Lieutenant and a Major and had taken off from Sange village in the district at somewhere around 9:00 a.m. and was headed for Missamari in Assam’s Sonitpur district.

Officials have stated that the Army helicopter crashes near Mandala, which is in Bomdila, and that such parties had been sent to the crash site to investigate and locate the occupants of the Chopper. The superintendent of police, Rohit Rajbir Singh of the special investigation Cell (SIC), mentioned that the villagers had found the helicopter crashed and engulfed in Flames in Dirang and immediately informed the district officials. At some time around 12:30 p.m., villagers from Bangjalep at Dirang found the crashed Chopper. The area where it was located is known to have little to no mobile connectivity, and the weather is known to have extremely low visibility, which can drop down to as low as 5 metres.

This is not the first incident of this nature to have occurred in the North Eastern regions of India. Previously, 13 Air Force personnel had perished after an AN-32 aircraft crashed on June the third of 2019, after taking off from the Jorhat region of Assam. The aircraft itself was headed for the Mechuka Advanced Landing Ground (ALG) in Arunachal Pradesh when it lost all radio contact with the ground authorities 

somewhere around 1:00 p.m.

After a search and rescue operation on a massive scale was conducted for over eight days, the wreckage of the aircraft was finally located by Mi-17 Chopper.
