In a tweet just now on Thursday Adar Poonawala wrote : Thank you everyone for your concern and prayers. So far the most important thing is that there have been no lives lost or major injuries due to the fire, despite a few floors being destroyed tweeted Adar Poonawala.

Earlier Poonawala had in a statement said that he is least concerned about the losses but is concerned about rescuing few people inside the building on fire. The losses can be assessed, later on, after the fire is brought under control said Poonawala.

It is being said that the losses can be around Rs fifty crores. In another tweet the Maharashtra CM office has informed about the CM Udhav Thakrey being in constant touch with the Pune municipal commissioner, keeping a close watch on the situation.

It may be recalled that a massive fire had broken out in the new plant of Serum Institute of Puna at 2.45 PM which could be brought under control by 4.45 PM after fifteen fire tenders were pressed into service.

The new plant’s fifth floor building caught fire which further spread fast with massive fumes emerging out of the building.

However, there was no loss of life as the fire brigade rescued all the four people stuck inside the building, especially in the floor that caught fire.

However, there was no harm to Covishield vaccines as they were being manufactured and subsequently stored at minus 8 degree Celcius temperature in the main plant of Serum about 1.5 kilometres away from the Terminal 1 building on fire.

The Serum Institute was established in 1975 in one hundred acres of land by Adar Poonwala’s father Cyris Poonawala and is one of the largest vaccine and medicine manufacturers in the world with Covishield being supplied in India as well as globally.

Speaking to media the Pune Police Commissioner has confirmed winning over the massive fire in Serum Institute at 4.45 PM after extinguishing it with the help of 15 fire tenders and a dedicated team of firemen.

The new plant of Serum Institute where the fire broke out was to be used in the near future for manufacturing Covishield says news reports to meet the additional demand for the Covid 19 vaccine Covishield n other Covid vaccines on which the company is already pursuing its work as per the sources.
