Delhi police commissioner SN Srivastava urges farmers to adhere to their precribed routes

After granting due permission to the Kisan leaders of several farmers organisations expecting cooperation and maintenance of adequate law and order and peaceful conduction of the kisan tractors’ rally on the fixed routes on outer ring road after the conclusion of the Republic day parade, the Delhi police commissioner S. N Srivastava has issued stern warning to the various Kisan organisations, their leaders and the participating farmars of the tractor rally to strictly adhere to the prescibed rules and regulations of the authoritatively fixed routes failing which a strict action will be taken against them.

It may be recalled that the farmer leaders had held a meeting with the Delhi police commissioner on Sunday and they were granted permission for the rally but with the strict instructions to adhere to the prescribed rules and the routes.

The farmer leaders have also appealed to all the agitating farmers to exercise restraint and descipline to ensure that the tractor march is held peacefully to ensure that no untoward incident takes place as there is every possibility of some disgruntled elements trying to created division and disruption in the tractor rally.

The Delhi police commissioner SN Srivastava has announced that thousands of Delhi police pesonnel are on vigilant duties to ensure strict maintenance of law and order and no disruptive element will be allowed to create disturbance or nuisance in the rally.

He unambiguously issued strict warning that if any attempt would be initiated to hamper the prescribed routes movement and create disturbance in the tractor rally the Delhi police will leave no stone unturned to deal with the law breakers stringently.

Meanwhile, the Bhartiya Kisan Union president Rakesh Tikaith has while appealing all the participant farmers in the tractor rally to exercise full restraint and tranquil has urged the police and the government to respect the peacefully agitating farmers and not to confront or provoke them failing which they will be compelled to resort to direct action.

The union agriculture minister Narender Tomar has also appealed to the agitating farmers who had not agreed to postpone their tractor rally on the Republic day despite the government’s repeated requests, to confine themselves to the prescribed routes peacefully and adhere to descipline to maintain peace and tranquility.

It may be recalled that there had been ten rounds of negotiations between the farmers leaders and the government represented by the union agriculture minister Narendra Tomar, railway minister Piyush Goyal and the state agriculture minister Som Prakash but the talks remained failed till date despite various concessions being given by the government including deferring the three contentious agricultural laws for one and a half year.

The farmers’ representatives being adamant as usual wanted nothing beyond repealing of the three farm laws and enactment of a new concrete law on Minimum support price.

The three contentious agricultural laws are : The farmers produce trade and commerce ( promotion and felicitation) act 2020 , The farmers (empowerment and protection ) agreemement on price assurance and farms services act 2020 and the essential commodities ( amendment) act 2020.
