Nizamuddin Markaz – A big blow to India’s fight against COVID 19

India is trying hard to prevent the outbreak of COVID 19 on a massive scale. The 1.4 billion population base of this country is hindering the country’s fight against this deadly pandemic. The majority of the people are obeying the lock down orders, but some sections of the society are creating a problem for the doctors, police and other concerned authorities. Stone pelting against doctors, the congregation in Nizamuddin mosque etc. are some glaring issues that the Indian government is trying hard to deal with.

The congregation of 4000 people in Tablighi Jamaat in Nizamuddin, Delhi, has been a great blow to all our efforts as this Markaz has been the biggest hotspot of COVID-19. Those evacuated from Markaz Nizamuddin resulted in doubling up of COVID19 cases in Delhi. Delhi government is gearing up for rigorous testing in the wake of this unfortunate incident.

The nation right now has around 2,069 positive cases, while 53 people have died till now. 235 new cases have been reported in the last 24 hours. Among the 53 people who have died, at least 15 had connections to the Delhi Tablighi Jamaat meet. 9 of them were from Telangana, and one each from cities like Gujarat, Delhi, Karnataka, Mumbai, and Tamil Nadu.

The Joint Secretary of Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Lav Agarwal, briefed that all those who had attended the congregation, as well as their relatives and acquaintances, have been quarantined. Government authorities right now are working on war footing to handle the entire scenario before it goes out of hand.

The evacuation process of 2300 people from Markaz Nizamuddin started on Tuesday and lasted till around 4 am on Wednesday. Among them, 500 symptomatic people were taken to the hospitals, and the rest were quarantined. Tamil Nadu health officials confirmed that a 64-year-old man who had attended the Markaz died off COVID 19 on March 29.

The authorities, after the Markaz congregation, right now are finding it strenuous to prevent the fatal virus from spreading across the masses. Also, they are trying to calculate the exact number of deaths of those people who attended the congregation.
