Swiggy, Zomato delivery faces lock down impact

A 28-year Zomato delivers rider Tanay Roy waiting on South Delhi Vasant Kunj waiting for the last 40 minutes says, “a siren will ring when a new order is assigned so that you will know.” He also adds by saying that working with Zomato for a year usually, if he works 12 hours, he will earn about Rs 1000, and he makes 20 to 30 deliveries a day.

Currently, in this lockdown, he said there are not more than two to three, and he is not alone. Numerous riders from Zomato and swiggy are parked along the roads in cities across India. Only a handful of restaurants sending out takeaways and the rest of the eateries in malls are shut. A steep decline in the income of these food delivery riders as they are reportedly earning Rs 200 a day from the usual salary of Rs 900 to 1000.

On March 25, Zomato co-founder Deepinder Singh tweeted that he would start “a fund to cover up the lost earnings for thousands of their delivery partners.”

On Tuesday swiggy also announced a relief named ” Swiggy hunger Saviour Covid Relief Fund ” for the welfare of delivery partners and their families.”
