Retests of recuperated patients and intensified screening for asymptomatic cases in China

China revealed a new chained protocol ensuring retesting of the recovered patients on Thursday. Parallelly it plans on increasing the intensity of the screening to detect the cases without symptoms amidst the growing concerns of the secondary wave of contamination in the country. This comes after the lifting of lockdown form Wuhan, the place of the virus’ inception.

63 fresh cases were reported on Thursday by the National Health Commission of China, and it took the total toll of the secondary contamination to 1,104. Also, 2 deaths were reported increasing the death count to 3,335. The country has by far observed 81,865 cases of covid-19. 

China, after having fought with the menace for 3 long months, is going through a speedy recovery to normalcy with its various sectors becoming functional. But there are growing concerns related to virus’s outspread especially due to thousands of Chinese returning home from overseas.

After the lockdown was lifted from Wuhan on Wednesday multitude of people were seen travelling out by road, rail and air. The province was in a state of lockdown for 76 days and is believed to be the epicentre of the deadly pandemic.

China, under its newly released protocol, has instructed retesting of the recovered patients by making the doctors revisit them and further monitor their health. A total of 77,370 people has been discharged following their recovery, and the majority of them are from Wuhan and Hubei province. As per the guidelines of the protocol, the recovered patients should stay in quarantine for a couple of weeks before returning back to their normal lives. And during this period, they should regularly check their temperatures and look out for any of the symptoms. 

Hospitals that have been designated for the treatment of covid-19 should make plans for the retesting of the recovered patients for the next two to four weeks after their discharge. Sputum samples have been suggested as the first choice for retesting. The recovered patients will be termed as positive if they are found to show symptoms and their CT scans depict worsened lung infections. And such patients should be immediately hospitalised to undergo further treatment. 

Suggestions for intensified detection and speedy response to asymptomatic cases have been made by the committee headed by the Chinese Premier, Li Keqiang. This committee has been at the forefront in the efforts to curb the spreading of the virus.
