An end of an era indeed. Seventy two year old eminent literateur n contemporary hindi poet Manglesh Dabral has been given final adieu by his family, friends n near and dear ones, today.

He was consigned to flames at Lodhi Road crematorium with son and daughter in tears. His 36 year old son and 30 year daughter Alma Dabral were present to bade him last farewell though Mangleshji’s soothing memories will remain fresh in the hearts and minds of his infinite number of accquintances.

An intellectual to the core, prestigious Sahitya Academy award recipient, popular contemporary hindi poet, author of eminence, veteran journalist having edited popular hindi dailies like Jansatta, Rashtriya Sahara, Amrit Prabhat etc authoring good number of books on literature and poetries translated almost in all the foreign languages, also translating the famous Booker prize winning novel “The God of Small Things” authored by the celebrated English writer Arundhati Roy, Manglesh Dabral has left a huge void in the literary and poetic fraternity neigh to impossible to be filled.

He was also the Editorial Consultant in National Book Trust apart from working in daily Hindi Patriot, Purvagrah n number of other publications. etc.

Apart from being the awardee of prestigious Sahitya Academy Award he got number of other felicitations viz Samsher Samman, Smriti Samman, Hindi Academy’s first outstanding honour titled SAHIYAKAAR SAMMAAN etc.

Apart from being an intellectual to the core he was a man with affable nature, soft spoken but with left bent of mind writing for the poor, down troddens, the depressed n oppressed highlighting their plights and against communalism, reactionary forces and authoritarianism and capitalism.

Large number of senior journalists, poets n writers including Manohar Nayak, spokesman ( CPI ML), Senior journalists Umakant Lakhera, Vipin Dhulia, CPI (ML) general secretary Dipank Bhattacharya etc were present at Lodhi Road cremetorium to pay their last tributes.

It is sad to recall that three towering personalities of Uttarakhand, Vishwamohan Badola, veteran journalist and actor , Prem Lal bhatt, a popular Hindi and Garhwali poet and Manglesh Dabral died just in a short span of a month creating a huge vaccum in the journalistic, literary and poetic fraternity never to be filled again.

Vishwamohan Badola and Mangleshji were good old friends known to each other since last several decades. Her daughter Kalindi Badola writes as to how shocked was Manglesh Chacha when my father expired on 23rd November in Mumbai. Chacha phoned us and condoled the entire family assuring us about writing on Badolaji in detail after few days in reverrence to pay his respectful homage, not knowing that hard lucked Chacha will not be in our midst after few weeks. RIP.
