Foot sores may be the newest addition to the symptoms of Corona Virus

Presently, almost all parts of the world have been affected by the deadly corona virus pandemic. The virus has, till now, infected more than 1.8 million people spread over 200 countries and territories as reported by the World Health Organisation. Scientists, researchers, and medical professionals all around the world are trying to find new information related to the virus every day. This is of utmost importance to be able to devise better treatment methods, develop vaccines, and other preventive measures to stop the virus from spreading.

The most important things that need to be done during this pandemic are rapid and efficient testing among individuals, recognizing the various symptoms of coronavirus and practicing proper prevention.

foot sores can be the new symptoms of corona

As studies have confirmed that this is an asymptomatic disease and the incubation period may range from 1 to 14 days. This means a person may get affected by the coronavirus but the symptoms might be prevalent a couple of weeks later.

Hence, it is very necessary to practice social distancing, isolation, and stay indoors. Also, one should be aware of the recent developments going on concerning the coronavirus.

This includes the various symptoms associated with COVID-19. Apart from the conventional symptoms that are found in most of the patients, few rare symptoms have also been noted.

Foot Sores – the newest symptom of COVID-19:

When the world was first introduced to this virus, it was believed that fever, cough, chest congestion are the key symptoms to detect COVID-19. However, gradually as more positive cases were reported, other symptoms were observed.

These included a lack of taste and smell, headaches, body aches, etc. Now, a recent study has shown that even foot sores may be a symptom of COVID-19.

As per a report in the International Business Times, foot lesions, sores or bruises, which are commonly observed in other viral diseases like chickenpox, were found in some COVID-19 patients.

And experts have cautioned that these sores may be early signs of being contaminated.

The Spanish General Council of Official Podiatrist Colleges has explained in a statement that these lesions are purple.

In resemblance, they are very similar to those of chickenpox, measles or chilblains. And they usually appear on the toes and normally heal without leaving a mark.

It is said that such symptoms are mostly found to be present in younger patients in Italy, France, and Spain. Although, few cases were also reported where these symptoms were seen in adults.

In a statement, the Spanish General Council of Official Podiatrist Colleges said, “The Council wants to convey a message of reassurance to parents and possible victims, given the benign nature of the lesions, and to remember that they should monitor the appearance of the other clinical symptoms characteristic of COVID-19, such as cough, fever, respiratory distress, etc.”

Last month, a young 13-year old boy was said to have complained of such sores. But initially, they were discarded as being spider bites.

Then later the boy developed other more common symptoms of COVID-19 like fever, muscle aches, and headache.

And similar types of symptoms were also observed in his mother and sister. However, due to the current emergency in Italy, the boy is yet to be confirmed for COVID-19.

These foot lesions have been a common occurrence in various asymptomatic children in the last week of March, mostly in Italy and Spain.

This has made healthcare bodies more cautious about such lesser-known symptoms of COVID-19, especially among younger patients.
