Fmr Assam CM dies of post Covid multi organ failure at the age of 86

The three time chief minister of Assam, former union minister n a veteran Congressman Tarun Gogoi has breathed his last at the age of 86 while undergoing treatment in Guwahati medical college where he was addmitted on 25th August after being infected with dreaded Corona virus. According to the news reports his vital body organs had become non functional after being damaged due to Covid 19. Born in 1936, a law postgraduate Tarun Gogoi had been the secretary n general secretary of AICC and president of Assam Congress in 1976, 1985 and from 1986 till 1990 respectively.

A soft spoken n affable natured dedicated Congressman, quite popular in Assam, Tarun Gogoi had been a student leader while in college having been elected to the Jorhat city council in 1968. He was elected member of parliament from Jorhat in 1971, 1977, 1983, 1991 n 1999. From 1991 to 1993 thereafter from 1993 to 1995 he was appointed as union state food n processing minister. He was the chief minister of Assam thrice since 2001 till 2011.

The Congress leader Rahul Gandhi while extending his deepest condolences of Gogoi’s sad demise tweeted : Sh. Tarun Gogoi was a true Congress leader. He devoted his life to bringing all the people and communities of Assam together.

For me, he was a great and wise teacher. I loved and respected him deeply.
