Cherishing the same day, nine years ago when India lifted its second ODI World Cup

It was the same date exactly nine years ago when the Men in Blue won their second ODI World Cup. On April 2, 2011, India won it for their second time after bearing this trophy for the first time in 1983. Today’s a historic day, and let’s celebrate it by having a look at some of the memorable hits and events from that match.

Notably, out of all the matches held during that tournament, India lost just a single match against South Africa. India has its semi-finals with Pakistan, and they won it, leading to their final match held against Sri Lanka. The overall team score of Sri Lanka concluded to 274/6, with Mahela Jayawardene being the top scorer. India’s starting had a bad phase as Virender Sehwag, and Sachin Tendulkar were clean bowled with 31 runs. However, the moment the team leader MS Dhoni stepped on the ground along with Gautam Gambhir, they proved to be a game-changer. They had a 109-run partnership during the whole match.

Also, who can even forget the famous lap of Sachin Tendulkar around the huge Wankhede stadium that has made its mark in everybody’s heart.
