After Covishield, SEC approves COVAXIN for emergency use

After formally giving authorisation to the Oxford/ AsteraZeneca vaccine Covishield on Friday, the Subject Expert Committee of CDSCO has today granted permission to indigenously manufactured Covid 19 vaccine by Hyderabad based Bharat biotech for its emergency use. The Subject Expert Committee has recommended restricted emergency use approval for SSi’s Covishield vaccine subject to multiple regulatory conditionalities on Thursday. As a sequel to its approval to Covishield, the Bharat Biotect and India Council of Medical Research’s Covaxin was also approved by SEC for restricted use in emergency situation in wider public interest say the latest news reports. The main reason behind granting approvals to both these vaccines is especially in view of the mutant strains’ of Sars CoV2. However, the final decision would be taken by the main regulatory authority Drugs Controller General of India. The Subject Expert Committee has also given permission to Cadila healthcare to conduct the phase three human trial of its Covid vaccine candidate. Meanwhile, in Delhi Guru Tegh Bahadur hospital and Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia Institute including at various hospitals of about fifteen states dry run trials of the vaccines were carried out successfully with the union health minister Dr. Harshvardhan announcing about the free distribution of vaccines to the three crore front line Corona warriors viz doctors, paramedics, police, home guards, civil defence officials etc Rest 27 crore people above fifty years of age and those with comorbiditis below forty years would be innoculated the vaccine by July said the tweet of the union health minister Dr. Harshvardhan. Meanwhile, the former chief minister of Uttar Pradesh and Samajwadi Party leader Akhilesh Yadav has in a press conference declared that he will not get himself innoculated with the vaccine terming it as the BJP teeka, with the deputy chief minister of Uttar Pradesh Mr. Maurya condemning the statement of Akhilesh Yadav demanding legal action against him for insulting the scientists of our country who had devised the Covid 19 vaccine.
