Legendary Uttarakhand Singer Heera Singh Rana is no more. An end of an era.

Uttarakhand lost a renowned legendary singer, poet, lyricist and above all the promoter n preserver of Uttarakhand’s folk culture, languages and regional ethics Heera Singh Rana on 13th June due to cardiac arrest at his trans Yamuna, East Delhi’s Vinod Nagar residence sending a shock wave across the Himalayan state especially among his millions of followers n fans who were paranoid / crazy of his thrilling and mesmerising songs n music.

First Vice chairman of Garhwali, Kumaoni and Jaunsar language Academy of NCT of Delhi founded by AAP government for the very first time last year, extremely modest but very popular and adorable singer n poet of Uttarakhand Heera Singh Rana was 78 year old having born on 16 December 1942 in Kumaon, Uttarakhand.

There are hundreds of mesmerising regional songs and impressive poetries to his credit during his outstanding n flourishing career of last five decades. Heera Singh Rana was not only a legendary singer but a movement protagonist and an institution in himself who also relentlessly participated in separate Uttarakhand and Gairsain movements by way of infusing enthusiasm and zeal amongst movement activists through his meaningful poetries and songs thus finally achieving these long pending demands, one fully while another partially.

Recipient of unacounted number of coveted awards, recognitions n felicitations by hundreds of social, academic and even governmental organisations during his five decades of impressive singing, musical and poetic journey Heera Singh Rana is termed as a priceless diamond of Uttarakhand who had never aspired for any personal favour or monetary benefit and lead a life of Fakeeri infact.

His entire life was an epitome of relentless struggle and a book authored by senior journalist Charu Tiwari titled SANGHARSHPN KA RAHI, ( An epitome of struggles) based on Rana’s life was released in the year 2014 in Delhi lauded by one n all.

While he was suffering from an ailment in a hospital some ago he was financially helped by his friends n followers and Ranaji disclosed about his survival due to this financial support in one of the cultural programmes in Delhi extending his hearty gratitude to social activist n renowned entrepreneur Narendra Ladwal n others with tears in his eyes.

His prominent songs n poetries viz Meri manilei daani, Laska kamar baandha, ( on demand of separate Uttarakhand state) tyar pahad, myar pahad, haai haai re mijaata, Ann kasi chei, hiun haigi laal, Hai jamana etc have been highly lauded by millions of his fans n followers.

Such modest was legendary singer, poet, author n lyricist Heera Singh Rana who never during his life aspired for monetary gains but selflessly dedicated his entire life winning the hearts of millions of Uttarakhandies in Uttarakhand, all the states of India and even abroad. He left behind his wife and a son.

Legendary Heera Singh Rana was cremeted at Nigam Bodh Ghat yesterday. Several intellectuals, journalists , socio cultural activists and his followers including close relatives paid their homage at the cremetorium. Due to the Covid 19 critical situation limited number of people participated during his last rights. Social media is full of the shocking news of Heera Singh Rana with his umpteen followers paying their last respects n tributes to this great singer.

Gopal Babu Goswami, Heera Singh Rana and Narendra Singh Negi are three popular names of poets, singers, lyricists and promoters of the regional folk songs, culture n poetries of Uttarakhand globally amongst the Uttarakhand population.

Unfortunately out of these three legendary singers Gopal Babu Goswami and Heera Singh Rana have left for their heavenly abode leaving their millions of fans in tears n agony. Heera Singh’s untimely sad demise is an end of an era say one and all.
