NCW member says: Had Badaun deceased not gone to temple alone the crime would not have occured

The chairperson of the National Commission for Women Rekha Sharma was constrained to confront an awkward situation today when she had to face lot of adverse questions from the electronic as well as print media on the highly irresponsible statement of her own Member of NCW Chandramukhi, inviting outrage in social media, when she alongwith another member had visited the house of the gangraped and diabolically murdered woman in Agauti, Badaun in Uttar Pradesh.

The member of NCW Chandramukhi had while speaking to reporters after meeting the aggrieved family members of the unfortunate fifty year old women had given a highly irresponsible statement saying that the women should have not ventured alone in the evening and get influenced.

She added that she should have avoided going in the evening or had accompanied a child with her. Had she done so the incident would have not occured.

This state of Chandramukhi has invited widespread retaliation and protests in social media with everyone condemning it.

The chairperson of the National Commission of Women had to strongly condemn her own responsible member’s irresponsible statement in front of media in various debates as well as issue clarification in social media that it may be her personal statement and the NCW strongly condemns it.

Apart from several twiteraties, the Bollywood actress and daughter of eminent producer, director Mahesh Bhatt, Pooja Bhatt while taking strong and serious view of NCW member Chandramukhi ‘s irresponsible statement on the gangrape and abominable murder in Badaun district of UP has tweeted : Respected @NCWIndia@sharmarekha Do you stand by this statement by your representative in context to the Badaun rape case ? Kindly clarify if you agree with your representative that the victim was at fault for stepping out to visit a temple unaccompanied and at the time she did, tweeted Pooja Bhatt annexing the tweet of one Prashant Kumar with Chandramukhi’s vedio writing : NCW member Chandramukhi lectures women on timings of them venturing out, says the Badaun incident wouldn’t have happened had the woman not gone out alone in the evening.

The chairperson of NCW responded in her tweet writing : No, I don’t …I don’t know how and why the member has said this but women had all the right to move on their will, whenever and wherever they want to. It’s society and state’s duty to make places safe for women enclosing Pooja Bhatt’s tweet.

A retired IAS officer Surya Pratap Singh while questioning the UP government whether they abide by the directives of the supreme court or not, tweeted in Hindi:

Do the state government not abide by the directives of Supreme Court ? An oppressed poor family of the brutally gangraped n murdered woman was pressurised n provoked for not registering the FIR ? Would @ sharmarekha say something in this ? Is it your authoritative stand that women should not come out in the evening tweeted retired IAS officer Singh. He also added that I request the chief minister of UP Yogi Adityanath, Home secretary Avinash Awasthi and UP director general of police to immediately convene a meeting of all the SHOs of all the districts of UP and ensure the safety and security of the women community in the state.

A two member NCW team had visited the house of the deceased woman and met her aggrieved family and talked to them.

Thereafter it also met the senior police officials and blamed them for their laxity in registering the FIR.

However, while talking to reporters one of the member Chandramukhi issued the highly irresponsible statement saying that had the deceased gangraped victim not gone out in the evening alone the crime would not have been committed raising tremendous outrage in social media and electronics channels of the country.

Speaking to Times Now, NCW chairperson Rekha Sharma said NCW always fought for the equal rights of women at public places. It is the duty of state and the society to make places safe for women. This can be her ( Chandramukhi’s) personal view said Rekha Sharma while responding to the statement of her member in Badaun after meeting the aggrieved family. She added that she condemns her statement on strongest possible terms.

It may be recalled that a fifty year old woman of Ugouti, Badayun, who had gone to a temple in the evening on Sunday was allegedly gangraped and brutally murdered by a temple priest and his two accomplices with a rod inserted into her private part, ribs and legs broken and lungs ruptured most diabolically , as confirmed by the the post mortem report on Monday. The Badayun police has been accused of delaying the FIR by pressuring the bereaved family and only coming into action only after the postmortem report confirming her gangrape n brutal murder.

The two accomplices of the priests ( rapists n murderers have been arrested) while the priest is still absconding. The case under sections 376 and 302 of IPC have been registered.
