Human urine can create concrete structure on the moon, notify the researchers

A study done by the scientists of many nations has found that urea present in the human urine can be used to build structures on the surface of the moon. As per the article published in Journal of Cleaner Production, human urine has a chemical structure which is similar to that of the lunar regolith.

Now the question arises why do we need to build structures on the surface of the moon? The surface of the lunar is much more severe due to lack of the atmosphere. It has an extreme temperature that rises up to 120 degree Celsius even.  Due to these harsh conditions, the effects of the meteor shower will be much worse on the moon than on the earth. So these structures will safeguard the people who will reside there.

To examine their research, the scientists have developed 3D printed cylinders that are made from the material that is the same as regolith. They mould it with human urine and other compounds. These structures will be capable of bearing heavy loads. The team of experts is now concentrating on how to extract urea from urine along with other necessary components.

The study is done by the group efforts of the best team of researchers from Spain, Italy, Norway and Netherlands in alliance with the Europe Space Agency.
