Assam faces crop damage due to 21-day lockdown

The three-week whale lockdown in our country, which Prime minister Narender Modi announced, made a huge impact in the farming sector of Assam and other parts of our country.

Due to this 21-day lockdown poor farmer from Ratua village in Assam’s Biswanath district, Musafir Ali spent sleepless nights as he failed to sell the vegetables in the market because of lockdown. This 35-year-old man is the single earner in his family and his family; there are a total of 8 members. He has two minor daughters, wife, elderly parents to take care of.

Moreover, he is facing a problem because of the lockdown as his source of income was to sell those vegetables in the market, which he is not able to, and whatever he has produced got damaged, and he is facing a loss of several lakhs.

Musafir Ali took a loan of one lakh from few locals in his village to cultivate and produce those vegetables, and he cultivates vegetables like cabbage, tomato, brinjal in 22 bighas land, and he has taken the land on lease from other people.

Similarly, like Musafir Ali, other farmers are also facing severe problems as their source of income is from this.
